Child Has Blocked Nose, Yellow Mucus. Teached To Blow Nose. Child Does It Often Very Strongly. Any Side Effect Of Blowing Nose?
Hello Doctor, I have query for my 4 years old son who is off late troubled with blocked nose and yellow mucus, we live in Dubai where dust in the air is too much esp at this time since summer is just turning up. We trained him to blow his nose and he does it quite well now so that we can help him getting the mucus but I am worried that he is practising it blowing nose too hard and too often, I am beginning to worry that blowing nose so hard that too at his very young age will have some adverse effects. Is blowing nose to take the excess mucus good way in the kids and what is the best practise to blow nose?
The presence of yellow colored mucus and blocked nose at particular season of the year (i.e. summers) indicates an allergy. The nasal discharge can be cleared by blowing. However, the causation of these symptoms has to be treated. Blowing the nose too hard is harmful as the excessive pressure can cause damage to the soft tissue or capillaries. So, treatment of the allergy is needed. Consult a pediatrician soon.
