Child Has Bruises On Knee, No Pain Or Swelling, Audible Clicking Sound. Should I Be Concerned?
My 8-year-old has practised splits and hand stand. She fell on her knees on wooden floor a couple of times when praticing hand stand. Her both knees have bruise . There is no pain or swelling. However, now (about a week after the trauma) when she squts or bends her knees there is a audible clicking sound and I can feel an hard line twisting on the knee. Sould I be concerend? Is it tendon or ligament strain? Can it healed? How should it be cared? I appreciate any helpful info.
Since both the knees got bruised, it is prudent to get X ray AP and Lateral of both the knee joints. It was not wise to wait for a week. When the knee clicks routinely with no history of injury it is normal.
But if it clicks following a trauma, it means an underlying injury. It can be a meniscal tear that needs appropriate intervention. If X ray is not suggestive, the Orthopedician might advice an MRI.
Keep in mind that if there is indeed an underlying injury, any further mobilization will lead to more inflammation and damage and worsen the condition.
Remember knee injuries should never be ignored as it can lead to a chronic problem in later life.
