Child Has Croup, Neck Pain, Underarm Pain. Dry Nagging Cough. What Do You Think?
My son had strep 6 weeks ago and was put on amoxicillin . Last Monday took him back because of croup symptoms. He gets it every fall. He did have croup plus she tested him for strep again and he was positive again. So he s been on steroid for croup and stronger antibiotic for strep. past 2 days he hasn t felt well and complaining of neck pain on the side of neck and underarm pain in both arms. His croup cough is gone but he still has a dry nagging cough all throughout the day. What do u think?
Croup is a term reserved for serious respiratory infection caused by viral infection for which antibiotics are not indicated. Your child had a bacterial infection for which antibiotics were started. Steroid is indeed very effective in such cases and that explains that your child is better now. It takes time for cough to resolve. Even when the infection has cleared, it may take 7 to 10 days for the secretions in the form of cough to get completely cleared and the child still continues to remain healthy and without fever. So dont worry, he would be fine. If it is dry cough as you mentioned, it can be controlled with a cough suppressant.
