Child Has Diarrhea, Blood In Stool. Given Expired Montaz. Any Side Effects?
My son is 3.6 years old, he is having diarrohea and stool was found to contain blood. We took him to a doctor where he admitted him and by mistake they gave an expired dose of Montaz injection.
We have taken him to another hospital for further treatment but please advise what can be the side effects now.
He has not passed stool in the complete day now and we see some swelling in his eyelids.
Please advise.

I can appreciate your concerns.
Montaz injection contains two compounds namely ceftrioxone & tazobactam.
As far as I understand giving expired montaz inj can probably have less or no antibacterial effect .
I have not come across of any report or incidence of toxic or life threatening effect of expired montaz injection.
The swelling in the eyelids can be due to excess intravenous fluids given.
you can discuss the issues with your current doctor.
