What Causes Bumps In Arm After Injecting Antibiotics Via Intravenous?

Hello. A month ago my wife was in the hospital due to having cellulitis, namely in her armpit area. She was treated with very strong antibiotics via intravenous. The nurses had to replace her line at least 5 times because her veins were blowing up, so to speak, due to the strength of the antibiotics. Now she has developed what feels like bumps in her arm. This started in her forearm where her line was moved around, but now is in her bicep. Could this be blood clots? Thank you

Hi,

As per your query you have bump in arm after IV injection which is common many a times as skin got inflamed. I would suggest you to apply a topical antibiotic cream like neosporin over the affected areas twice a day and apply cold compresses. Avoid pricking area.

If condition persist then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe oral antibiotics like clindamycin, anti-inflammatory medications.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
