Child Has Green Stools. Prescribed Flagyl. Next Treatment?
hi doctor, my child who is 5 months old got amoebic infection in his stomach . his stool was in greenish colour. we consulted a paediatrician and he prescribed Flagyl syrup for 10 days with 2.5 ml, 3 times a day. but giving him the medicine was very difficult since he was spitting the whole thing every-time. because of that, we were giving him only 2 times a day and it was stopped for the last two days. his stool became yellow in colour and frequency of passing stool also reduced but it was still semi loose. we tested his stool again after 10 days and found that he has still got amoeba infection. why is this doctor? what is the next treatment he would be receiving? can it be cured completely. he is drinking only breast milk . thank you for your kindness. yours sincerely, a worried mother.

Green stools do not indicate any thing except increased bowel motility.
We need not worry about the green color of the stool at all.
It is very unusual for a 5 month old to have amoebic infection. Very very unusual.
Particularly when he is breast fed.
Request you to repeat the stool examination at a different lab.
Is your baby exclusively breast fed or not?

Since you have mentioned that your baby is exclusively breastfed.
In is hardly any possibility of amoebic infection in 5 month old baby who is having only breast milk.
I suggest you to get a second opinion and get stools examined by second lab.
Give lactobacillus sachet for 2 to 3 days.
Give oral rehydration solution sip by sip after each loose stool.
Monitor for features of dehydration like lethargy/decreased urine output/refusal of feed and in case you observe any get him examined by a pediatrician.
