Child Has Lump On Eyelid. Appeared After Swimming. Advised To Put Warm Towel. Remedy?

My 7 yr old son has a small lump on his left eyelid for almost a month now. It started as a small bump and a swollen lid (it appeared after swimming). After a day, the swelling went away but the bump is still visible upto the present.
His pediatrician advised to put warm towel but it didn't go away. Btw,It doesn't look like a stye. Mom's worried!

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I can understand Mom's worry for the swelling. If the swelling is not increasing or causing any problem to the child then nothing needs to be done. However if the swelling is interfering in the child's activities then it should be shown to an eye specialist (ophthalmologist) to rule out a chalazion.

There is a difference between stye and chalazion. Stye is an acute problem.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son all the best.

Cardiologist Dr. Anantharamakrishnan's  Response
Hi friend,

Welcome to Health Care Magic

Obstruction of the duct of some the glands in the eye lid is the usual cause.

Infection could cause its perpetuation...

Consult an Ophthalmologist - minor surgery may relieve...It is not urgent, but it is the only sure and fast way...

Take care

Wishing speedy recovery

God bless

Good luck
