Child Has Plate And Screws In Forearm. Itchy Bumps, Red Rash. Allergic Reaction?

My son is 9 and 3 weeks ago had a plate and 8 screws put into farearm as he broke both bones and they would not set, my question is that he started getting itchy bumps a few days after surgery but now he has a blotchy red rash , it does not cover his whole body body but has patches everywhere including his face, could he be having an allergic reaction of some sort to the cast or the metal in his arm?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

The description that you provide suggests that your son probably has urticaria (hives). Urticaria is an allergic reaction but does not occur due to cast or metal in the arm. It may be to the medicines or some other thing in your son's environment which needs to be looked into.

You can give your son tab. Phenargan 1/2 tab. three times a day and see the response. It is always better to consult your doctor and proceed further.

I hope I have responded to your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son a speedy recovery.

Regards,

RKK
