Child Has Severe Cough, Cold, Yellow Mucus. Prescribed Clamp Kid Forte. Sufficient?
good afternoon Dr.
My kids have sever cough cold while sniffing the nose they are getting yellow mucus from nose. When consulted with the pediatric he has prescribed CLAMP KID FORTE AND GRILLINCTUS PD. My kids weight is 25 kgs and age is 4 6/12 they are twins. is this will be sufficient to get the problem into control
Hello, Your son has a URI associated with cold and cough. The Dr has prescribed antibiotic + cough syrup. This is more than sufficient for his age. If running nose is severe - antihistamine can be added - with consultation. Usually the DR does not give heavy dose of antibiotic. Complete the course of Clamp kid tab and if the infection is not responsive he may switch to higher antibiotic. This method is followed to prevent the infection getting resistance to antibiotics. So wait patiently and observe the response. Prevention is better than cure. Discuss with the Dr - how to avoid future URI. Best wishes
Continue the medications as advised by your doctor. Monitor for the following in a child with cough. 1. Rapid breathing. 2. Chest indrawing while breathing. 3. Abnormal noise while breathing. 4. Nasal flaring 5. Bluish discoloration of fingers (cyanosis) 6. Irritability or lethargy If your baby has any of these you should consult your doctor immediately
Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care. Dr Y V Siva Sankara Murty M.D.(Pediatrics) Associate Professor of Pediatrics
