Child Has Small Black Spots On Upper Back And Side. No Pain. What Is It?
I have a 21 month old. He is an african american male, no known allergies and not on any medications. This morning I noticed two small dime sized spots on his upper back and one on his side. They are black and appear to have a smudge on the outside like a burn or rug burn. I thought it they were rug burns at first but they have no texture to them and they do not hurt.
As the spots are not causing any pain or discomfort, I suggest that you leave them alone. They are likely to be simply a form of viral or superficial bacterial skin infection, or an after-effect of bug-bites or past skin infection. If they look as if they are infected, you can try applying an antibacterial skin cream such as mupirocin (Bactroban(R)).
