Child Has Sore Throat And Dry Cough. Low Oxygen Level. Vomiting Due To Coughing. Your Opinion?
My son 8 yrs old has had sore throat and bad dry cough since last thurs. Today I took him to dr. the nurse practioner said he probably had virus. His oxygen level was 89, heart rate 80, blood pressure was 92 over 60. I thought oxygen level sounded low so checked when i got home and i think it is , I was wondering your oppinion. Last 2 nights he is up every 1-2 hrs coughing bad. He trew up last night and this morning from coughing. Thanks for your advice
hello, PaO2 of 89 is fair enough (if i m right it is PaO2 and not SpO2). so there is nothing to worry about this aspect. but your child vomiting constantly with cough is worry some yet common complaint with viral respiratory infections. you should ask your pediatrician to prescribe some anti-tussive (cough suppressant) if its distressing as the child wont be able to eat well due to this. and maintaining nutrition is very important part in management of any illness. further you can make your child do warm saline gargles twice or thrice a day. generally it should take a week to 10 time to resolve so, be patient and look for any worsening of symptoms like drowsiness, refusal to feed, high respiratory rate and respiratory difficulty. thanks
