Child Has Swelling In Thigh After DPT Vaccination, Painful
Hi doctor My child is 18 months old four days back she has given DPT vaccination ... After one hr she got swelling on thigh.. And its not cured till now... It becomes verry hard to touch.. She feels pain. I came to know that pain and swleeing will be two to three weeks when we consult doctor . But the situation about my chaild swleling and hardness keep on incresed compared to the first two days . Now she is not allowing us touch that surface even .kindly advise

Pain and swelling due to DPT vaccination usually do not continue beyond a week or two and gradually decrease after the first two days .
In any case if it's worsening then there are chances of it being infected or developing an abscess.
I would recommend you consult a pediatrician or a pediatric surgeon as soon as feasible to examine the swelling , rule out infection / abscess and start appropriate antibiotics .
Sometimes an ultrasound of the part may be required to confirm the diagnosis .
