Child Have Dizziness. Had A Fall And Was Unconscious For A Few Minutes. ER And CT Scan Are Normal. Anything To Worry?

Hi Dr. Grief,
My son had a incident at school yesterday where he was choked by another student and went unsciousness for a few minutes and hit his head on the ground. I took him to the ER and they did a CAT scan which came out fine, but he says he feels dizzy whenever he stands up.

Is this normal? Or should I take him back to the ER?

Your child might have developed cerebral concussion due to head injury.

As the CT Scan is normal, nothing to worry.

Dizzy feeling may persist for some time, and it is seen with head injury.

Observe for danger signs like vomitings, drowsiness, fits, decreased limb movements, bleeding from nose, ears, and mouth, altered behavior.

If you find any abnormal symptoms, take the child to emergency immediately.

Ask him to stand slowly and gradually and provide rest.

If the dizziness persists beyond 24 hours consult your pediatrician for further management.
