Child Having Cold, Fever, Mucus Filled Nose. What To Do?

My 16 month old has had a cold for nearly a week...never seemed to carsick but a little fussy with spotted fevers.... nose is not as runny today but the Doug is still very present and raspy. I do not hear any gurgling when he breaths though...anything I can do. I seem to always worry right at the moment he gets better but this is the longest he has had a cough ... Thank you

Pediatrician 's  Response
Dear sir/madam,
I am really concerned that your child is suffering from cough. At this age usual cause for cough is viral infections. Cough can sometimes be lasting for a longer time- even two to three weeks. If fever has come down and child is feeding well, there is no need to start any antibiotics. Decongestants can be given for cough. Getting a pediatrician opinion is better than self medicating.
Don't worry, cough can take quite sometime after a viral infection. He will be alright. Decongestant cough syrup is all that your may need.

Take care
