Child Having Fever, Dry Cough. Relieves In The Mornings. High During Nights. Suggestions?
Hi Doctor, My 2 year 9 months girl is having severe fever with dry cough and cold for the last five days. I have given her DOLOPAR 250 mg for fever and Dylosyn expectorant for cough(3.5 ml each for 3 times). The temperature is getting redued once provided the medicine(only for few hours). But during the night hours she is very much struggling with high fever and cough. I am really worried on this as there is no progress till now for her fever. Please provide your valuable note on this. Regards, Shelma
Since its 5 days of fever now, its better that you have your girl seen by a pediatrician.
Dosage of Dolopar (Paracetamol) is 15 mg/ kg/ dose given every 6 hours. Please check if you are giving right dosage.
Her ear, nose, throat and chest should be examined- if suggestive of bacterial infection- she might need antibiotics.
So please visit a Pediatrician and get her examined fully.
Hope my answer helps you.
Wish your little one a speedy recovery.
Hi Shelma,
Thank you for your query,
Your child seems to have upper respiratory tract infection.
Continue the medication as prescribed by your Pediatrician.
Ensure her hydration by giving proper oral fluids and soft diet.
As the fever is continuing, there may be bacterial infection in the throat and antibiotics may be required.
So consult your Pediatrician for the examination of throat and respiratory system and addition of antibiotic if required depending on examination.
Hope I have answered your query.
Hi
Thank you for your query
Most coughs are viral in nature in children. But since she has had cough for five days i suggest you show to a pediatrician. She might have developed a bacterial infection. She may require
1. tests in the form of sputum test, X-ray (will decided once the pediatrician auscultates your child with a stethoscope)
2. You child may require a course of antibiotics for the same.
3. And lastly if there is any evidence of bronchospasm the child may also require a short course of bronchodilators (in inhaled or oral form)
Hope that helps
God bless you
