Your daughter must be suffering from a conductive or mixed hearing loss in one ear and must have been advised a Bone Anchored Hearing Aid surgery. The disadvantages of having only one functioning ear is that the child may not be able to have good speech discrimination and may miss some sounds; also the child may not be able to exactly localize the direction from where the sound is produced. BAHA will help in better language development. BAHA will be successful in patients who have undergone rigorous audiological pre selection process. As you have asked for a second opinion, Dr. Anirban Biswas from Kolkata is a renowned authority in the area of deafness management. You may visit him for an advise.
