Child Having High TSH Levels, Low T4 Level, Baldness In Scalp, Dental Malocclusion. Requisite Treatment?
7 year old girl with increased TSH levels (20.38 ulU/ml) and decreased T4 levels (5.31ug/dL) with patchy baldness on her scalp, dental malocclusion . she has a family history of hypothyrpoidism. is she suffering from hashimoto s thyroiditis? or antithyroid antibodies must to be checked for its diagnosis? if yes then the dental malocclusion related with hashimoto s thyroiditis
Hi
As your child is having high TSH and low T4 it is suggestive of Hypothyroidism .
The patchy baldness on her scalp can be explianed by hypothyroidism.
Hashimotos thyroiditis ia an autoimmune disorder and antithyroid antibodies(like anti thyroid peroxidase, antithyroglobulin antibodies) are required for the daignosis.
The Dental malocclusion is not related to the Hashimotos thyroiditis and consult Dental sugeon for this problem.
Hypothyroidism requires thyroxine replacement so consult your Pediatrician or Endocrinologist for starting thyroxine for your child.
