Child Having Sore Throat, Flushed Face, Peculiar Nobbles On His Tongue.

Hi there! I have just taken my son to the out of hours doctor and although I have some medicine to give him I am non the wiser of his diagnosis! My son presented with a temperature of 39.1, a very sore throat , flushed face, perculiar nobbles (for want of a better word) on his tongue. Communication was not the doctors strongest point and despite me asking what he thought it was he just gave me a prescription for some penicillin! Any ideas? Could this be scarlet fever? From a concerned mum! Ps appologies for any spelling errors:-/

Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your question.

Yes ! It could be a scarlet fever, but it needs to be confirmed by a throat swab culture and sensitivity report which will also show the best antibiotic suitable for the child.

However, some part of the treatment remains the same, like control of temperature with anti pyretics, some warm saline gargles and anti septic gargles, steam inhalations. For the present you can continue with the antibiotics prescribed by the doctor. Even the scarlet fever will need an antibiotic to be cured. Give him adequate amount of liquids along with his diet.

I wish your son an early recovery. Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for your health related doubts. Dr Shareef.

Hi, as you describe it appears to be the pharyngitis, it may be the follicular tonsilitis, strep throat, etc. Just by looking it not possible to come to a conclusion of the final diagnosis.
The doctor gave you a prescription for a pharyngitis, if you dont get relief, he will get the tests done and come to a conclusion of the diagnosis. Thank you.
