Suggest Remedies For Strep Throat And White Tongue In Children

My niece had strep throat about 3 weeks ago, then her tongue turned white, now she is in the hospital because of dehydration due to vomiting. She had a fever, but no diarrhea or rash that I am aware of. Two of her siblings are now sick with white tongue and vomiting. All children are under 6 years of age. Can you help us with ideas for what may have?

Hi,

All 2 children suffering from similar symptoms like vomiting, white tongue, the eldest one with fever and dehydration due to vomiting indicate viral infection as the most probable cause.
- Gastroenteritis due to something in foods or beverages that they have consumed can also cause vomiting.
- There are many reasons for white tongue like dehydration, oral thrush.
Changed bacterial flora in intestine.
- The eldest is already admitted means must have been clinically evaluated, investigated and thus proper treated for specific reasons and symptomatically too.
- The other two may need similar treatment.
Strep throat or for that matter any throat bacterial infection can cause manifestation of gastrointestinal symptoms, particularly in children.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
