Child Passing Hard Stool. Prescribed Duphalac. Suggestion?
hello, my 2 and half years old daughter always pass hard solid stool . As prescribed by the doctors, duphalac 8ml twice a day for 3 days,we tried that too but still she gets that hard stool and because of the pain (may be) she doesn t want to pass and tries to skip the motion. Pliz suggest, Today , also she hasn t pass it so far. Thank you.
Hi,
at her age, its worth finding out if this is a chronic problem, or its just started recently. if just started, you might need to check if you have recently changed her feeding pattern or formula if any. Adequate water and fruits as part of her diet might be of great help.
take the drugs as prescribed by physician. In case symptoms persist, a more descent evaluation might be needed to identify actual causes. Transient constipation is common at this age. Rare causes like Hirshprung s disease should also always be borne in mind.
Follow the prescribed regimen, enough water, fruit and vegetable diet. If no amelioration, you might need to see a pediatrician.
Hope this helps,
Luchuo, MD.
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Constipation in young child is mostly related to diet.
Laxatives like duphalac can be given for short period.
Most important is dietary modification.
Give her plenty of fluids, glucose water.,green leafy vegetables, salad, fruits, wheat porridge.
Avoid all kind of junk food.
Chronic constipation can lead to fissures ,so do sits bath(make him sit in lukewarm water for 10 min.)
