Pediatrician, Surgery 's  Response
Hello, It is very unusual condition that 6 month old child have stone. Such child may have some metabolic , calcium related problem so need to evaluate properly that what is the cause for this. Some investigations needed to rule out the urinary reflux as the other kidney is MCDK, Continue treatment as chances to pass stones of 4 mm are more .

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi Shekar,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Renal stones in a 6 months old child is uncommom.

Multicystic dysplastic kidney is prone for calcification.

Metabolic screening should be done to know the cause of stone formation like hig calcium in urine, blood, oxalates, cystine, and uric acid.

If there is any underlying metabolic problem it should be treated to prevent further formation of stones.

If the stone is not passed or causing any obstruction it has to be removed by intervention.

If the kidney function is good, as such there will be no life threatening risk to the life.

But if there is a deterioration of the kidney function, it will lead to kidney failure.

Be in regular follow up with the Pediatrician and urologist for monitoring of growth and kidney function at regular intervals.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
