Child Suffering With Viral Fever, Has Recurrent Rise And Fall In Temperature. Taking Combiflam, Moxileb, Allegra. What Should Be The Dosage For Combiflam?
Hello Dr. My son is 3 yrs 8 months old, wt-13 kg. He is suffering from severe fever from 25th June, morning. Local DR. suggested suspectign viral fever and suggested-Moxileb (7.5 ml twice daily), allegra (5ml twice daily) and calpol 120 mg@ 7.5 ml SOS. Calpol could not work, Dr. replaced calpol and suggested to take combiflam @5 ml thrice in a day. After giving combifalm fever subsides for 4.5-5 hrs but it again comes and tempt reached to 102F or more than 103 F. Now my question is how many times and at what doses I can give combiflam suspension to my son? Because I observed when fever subsides my son is feeling very restless condition. Dear Kusal,
Combiflam is anti-inflammatory antipyretic medicine consisting of Ibuprofen and paracetamol combination. One can use Ibuprofen at dose of 10mg/kg per dose to maximum of 3 dosage in a day. My concern is the duration of illness which your son is having fever is quite long and need urgent evaluation. Viral fever do not last so long and usually subside in 3-5 days. Any fever lasting more than 5 days or accompanied by restlessness, irritability, feeling of unwell warrants investigation for root cause. Further, the fever can also be managed by simple non-pharmacological method such as Tepid sponging. The correct method is to use lukewarm water and applying a layer of film of water through a clean handkerchief to the skin and let it evaporate. The procedure is repeated till temperature comes down. By this method the fever can be brought down without causing much discomfort to child. This method is based on principle of heat loss through latent heat of evaporation. Water has large latent heat for evaporation. Remember not to use cold water. I will strongly suggest you to consult your Pediatrician and get your son checked for other causes for fever- like typhoid, malaria etc.
