Child Tastes Blood In Back Of Throat, Painful, Gagging. Acid Reflux?
My 6 yr old has been complaining of tasting blood at the back of her throat . She points to where her larynx is though. She gags often and occasionally it hurts. It s been ongoing for about a year. She s been tested for strep and her doc recently mentioned it could be acid reflux . It doesn t happen all the time but it s been long enough. What can it be? Should she see a specialist?
I believe your child has been suffering from throat infection and subsequently got tested for strep infection.
The cough can be stained with streaks of blood in severe and chronic cough but it important to treat such infections with a course of antibiotics.
Your child must be having altered taste sensation and it is probable that what she says of tasting blood may actually be either mucous or altered taste.
A problem running for one year now needs evaluation with an ENT specialist.
Acid reflux causes vomiting and heart burn but these are not precisely his complaints.
A long standing problem like this can result in weight loss and anxiety.
So get your child evaluated soon.
Take care.
Dear Jazapiro I am sorry to hear about your daughter.I think
she should see Paeditric ENT Surgeon to have direct view
laryngoscopy To examine larynx to find laryngial polyps.
Acid reflux can cause throat irritation bur that is extrely rare'
Kindest regards Dr.S.K.Mukherjee
good morning, as ur doctor suggested it could be acid reflux , so ur child may require few tests which will rule out GERD. unless a thorough physical examination is done, opinions may vary and yes she ll require a specialist opinion.
