Child With Clay Colored Diarrhea, Gassy, Cramping Abdomen. Any Suggestions?
Hi. Six year old son us had diarrhea for for days. Had one night of vomiting. Diarrhea is a pale , clay or chalky color. Very gassy and seems to be having abdominal cramping occasionally. He looks paler than usual and somewhat lethargic, but with bursts of energy at times. Any suggestions on what the issue could be?
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. As I have seen in such type of cases , reason may be , 1 Jaundice , as clay colored stool with diarrhea and general weakness are classical feature of jaundice . Diagnosis can be confirmed by blood examination for SGOT, SGPT, serum bilirubin ,Hbasg type A B C E . 2 Food allergy may be the next reason as gassy with indigestion are main features.Diagnosis can be confirmed by stool examination in a lab for amoebic colitis . 3 Over eating may be the next reason. In my opinion consult a physician and get his opinion as physical examination is very important in this case. Ultrasound abdomen for liver is an important tool in this case. Good luck. Dr. HET
