Child With Cough And Nasal Blockage. Asked To Get Hospitalized For Antibiotic Injections. Necessary?

In an illness like this there are many indication of hospitalisation.
*If he is breathing very fast.
*If there is difficult breathing in form of ribs or chest indrawing or nasal flaring.
*Oral intake is
*The baby is severely dehydrated.
You can discuss the issues with your doctor about possibility of trying oral meds & antibiotics if needed at all.
another point--cow milk is not recommended as main drink in kids below 1 year of age. Consider switching over to apprpriate formula .

I am really concerned that your child is suffering from cough cold. Respiratory distress, decreased oral intake, altered sensorium, not responding to oral antibiotics are some of the indications for hospitalisation. May be your doctor might have found some points in favour of hospitalisation.
Nasal drops are available to take care of nasal block. If you really feel that your baby doesn't require hospitalisation, its always better to get another pediatrician opinion and follow his advice. If you are giving cows milk, try giving it undiluted and avoid bottle feeding.

For simple cold, cough, and nose blockage admission into a hospital and antibiotics are not required.

But if there are any danger signs like fever with decreased activity, respiratory distress, decreased oral intake, cyanosis, cold peripheries, then hospitalization may be required for iv injections.

If the child is active, feeding well, and there is no rapid breathing, his cold and cough can be managed at home by giving oral drops for cold and cough, and saline nasal drops for his nose block.

Therefore I advise you to consult a good Pediatrician for the assessment of his problems and for the treatment.
