Child With Itchy Anus. Given Medication For Worm Infestation. No Relief

Hi Doctor,
My 7 years old son has been complaining that his skin around his anus been very itchy, when i checked it seemed very normal, no dry skin/ redness, and i did put some itchy cream on it, it will goes away, but it comes and go repeteady for the whole week, i even gave him worm tablet for kids, but no changes.. Can you suggest what might caused it and the remedy.?

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Itching around the anus is a manifestation of worm infestation especially pin worm.

Has he received the proper dose of deworming medication?

If there is excess load of worms a second dose of deworming medication may be required after 2 weeks.

The other causes of itching is due to skin tags, healing cracks which developed due to hard stool.

Local examination is required to rule out any skin or rectal mucosa conditions that are associated with itching.

Hence consult the doctor for examination.
