Child With Major Stomach Pain And Vomiting. Feeling Weak And Miserable. Possibilities Of Appendicitis?
My 9 year old son began complaining of major stomach pains at dinner last night. He ate only 2-3 bites and wanted to lie down. A while later, he vomited, continued to complain of stomach pain, but now also leg, arm and head pain. I suspected dehydration was setting in. He has been sipping water or gatorade since, but continues to vomit. He is mostly vomiting bile or having dry heaves at this point. 25-30 hours later. His temp. has been between 100 - 100.7 since the episode began. He is weak and miserable. We continue to push sips of liquids. I am concerned about the possibility of appendicitis , too. Suggestions?
If your son is getting weak and sleepy, the main concern should be dehydration indeed which in some cases can be life threatening. He may suffer from acute gastroenterocolitis due to viral infection. Appendicitis is also possible especially if the pain has started in the upper middle abdomen and migrated to the right lower abdomen.
I suggest you to visit your doctor right away, have physical examination, blood work and abdominal ultrasound.
Hello mam,
Your son needs an urgent check-up by a doctor ,preferably a General Surgeon . He will definitely need routine blood test like complete blood count, LFT,Amylase & Lipase and Ultrasonography of Abdomen to exclude acute appendicitis and pancreatitis, based on clinical suspicion.A straight X-ray abdomen-Erect posture will rule out a clinical diagnosis of intestinal obstruction.
In any case ,you should not delay treatment to curb any of these condition ur child may be suffering from.
Thanks .
