Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi Vineet,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Most of the times constipation is because of inadequate fiber in the diet.

It is more common if a child is given only junk food and milk and nothing else.

Eating a diet rich in fiber, like fruits and vegetable is important for the prevention of constipation.

A child should also be given adequate water for prevention of constipation.

If constipation persists despite these measures then one should consult your doctor for further investigations.

Hope this helps.
Take care.

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Constipation in children is mostly related to dietary intake.
In chronic constipation hypothyroidism needs to be ruled out.
Give him plenty of fluids, glucose water and diet rich in fiber.
Give green leafy vegetables,fruits,salads,pulses.
Decrease intake of milk.
Give honey with warm water first thing in morning.

If it persist he will need laxative like lactulose for few days till he passes stools regularly.

Wishing your child good health.
God bless...
