Child With Swollen Eyes, Urine Tests Showed Protein, Diagnosed As Nephrotic Syndrome. Is It Temporary Or Permanent?
Hello Doctor, My baby is 4 yrs old and she is seen with swelling eyes for the past 4 weeks.. we consulted a nearby pediatrician .. He advised us to test her urine for protein loss.. Initial test indicated Trace and then 1+ and now its showing 2+ protein level.. Doctors confirmed its Nephrotic Syndrome . We are now advised to take steroids for 6 weeks.. My question is Is Nephrotic syndrome temporary or permanent?
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Nephrotic syndrome is due to loss of protein in the urine which is manifested by swelling of the body, decreased urine output.
In most of the cildren , nephrotic syndrome is due to minimal change disease and it responds to steroids.
But in some there are relapses in nephrotic syndrome after discontinuing steroids and some may be steroid dependant and some patients may be steroid resistant.
Be in regular follow up with your Pediatrician and give medication as per the doctor advise and prompt response may be expected in your child as per the age.
Hope I have answered your query.
