Child With White Patches Of Dry Skin. Family History Of Psoriasis. Should I Be Worried?
I ve noticed these white patches of dry skin on my me year old daughter. At first it was just on her upper thigh and I thought it was from her car seat or high chair but now she has the same thing on the inside of both of her arms where her elbow bends. I would just like to know what it is. Also on her fathers side of the family his sister and aunt both have psoriasis , I just want to know if that s what it could be, I just really hope its not.
The flexural area of elbow and kneees- is the most common site for atopic dermatitis.
Atopic Dermatitis is quite common in kids and its an allergy that affects the skin.
General dryness of the skin and itching are seen in this. Rashes can happen on the face and any where else. But they are really itchy! It is treated with emolients and mild steroids if needed.
Psoriasis usually happens on the elbow and knees. In those areas they are usually scaly. But it might happen in flexural areas, and they are not scaly in such cases.
Both can run in families.
Have the lesions examined by a Pediatrician/ Dermatologist before conclusions.
Hope my answer helps you.
