Chronic Cough, Choking, Spitting Mucus. Diagnosed W/reflux. No Help From Regular Ppi. Scan Showed Clear Lungs. Thoughts?
I have had a chronic cough for almost 3 years. Worse when I lay down, but bad all day too. Diagnosed w/ reflux, on ppi twice daily, doesn't help at all. Had full battery of scans, including pet. Dr says my lungs are clear. I have not slept through a night in 3 year, I wake up choking and often spit up globs of mucus. I do start coughing as soon as I eat anything, even on the medication. Any thoughts??

The causes of the cough could be upper respiratory, and lower respiratory. The lower respiratory could be due to bronchitis, bronchiectasis, asthma, or pneumonia, or tuberculosis. As the reports are normal, it is excluded.
the upper respiratory infections are pharyngitis, laryngitis, and uvulitis. The uvula is a projection from the posterior end of the soft palate, when it inflames causes irristible cough.
I to my patient with such cough prescribe erythromycin 5oo mg, pseudo ephidrine , levocitrizine, and dextro metharfan.
Avoid taking fruits, juices, sweats, and cooling items.
