Chronic Cough, Increased Broncho Vescular Markings With Calcifications, Blood Stained Sputum. Done Xray
My father is 55 years old ,he has chronic cough since 10 years with white expectoration in morning occasionally He has repeated exposure to dust due to his occupation of carpets.His recent chest X- ray .(done today) shows increased broncho vescular markings with hetrogenous calcifications. ECG - Normal. History of blood stained white sputum (scanty) 1-2 times. History of pain in retrosternal joint.weight - 130kgs.He has Fatty liver with hypertension.What could be his diagnosis? And what is the treatment ?Esp we are worried about hetrogenous calcification.

An occupational history of exposure to dust and chronic cough suggests occupational lung disease called pneumoconioses.
Presence of prominent vascular markings and heterogenous calcification on X-ray chest also suggests pneumoconioses.
Avoidance of exposure to dust associated with carpet work may be required. However, I don't know how fer that will be feasible.
Blood stained sputum should be investigated. There are many reasons for blood stained sputum. Tuberculosis and cancer are the main reasons for it.
Pneumoconiosis can also lead to blood stained sputum but the incidence is low as compared to other causes.
You should consult a pulmonologist for pulmonary function tests (PFTs).
PFTs will exactly charaterize the type of disease your father is suffering from.
