Chronic Pain In Cervical Area Due To Pressure On Nerves, Caused By Arthritic Degeneration. Will Neurotomy Help?
I have been diagnosed with chronic pain from my cervical/neck spinal area, probably caused by arthritic degeneration resulting in pressure on nerves in C2-3 and C4-5 joints. A specialist has suggested medial branch block to freeze the nerves there. Recently I also get acute pain when lying down - my scalp and skull muscles seem to tighten up when in this position, and I am now getting intense headaches in my forehead and facial areas. Would a neurotomy be beneficial in blocking these pains? Elisabeth, BC. Canada.
Hi I think cervical pain should be managed with rest by using a collar and analgesics. You must try to get it right by following a exercise programme to strengthen your shoulder and neck muscles. Initially it might be painful so take pain killers as and when required. generally these conditions lead to poorly functioning muscles because we don't use them for fear of pain. Please don't get intervention by blocking . It will,be effective for a few months, but what after that??? Ultimately permanent treatment has to be what I suggested. Sitting in right posture helps
