Hi. I feel my ear clogged after a sore throat . I can feel sound in ear when eating and swallowing . When i swallow saliva i can feel some movement in the ear. Sometimes there also some pains in the ear. Sometime the hearing reduced and then turn back normal after some hours. is that nose congestion also can cause this problem? So can i know the cause for this problem?
Hello dear...
There is a connecting tract (known as Eustachian tube) between the nasopharynx & middle ear through which infection can spread to ear.
Also obstruction to this Eustachian tube (most commonly due to cold/upper respiratory tract infection) can lead to ear pain by un-equalisation of pressure between the nasopharynx & middle ear.
Hearing is also reduced due to this.
The management consists of:
1. Drinking of warm fluids to reduce throat pain
2. Antihistamines to provide symptomatic relief.
3. Nasal decongestants to relieve ET tube obstruction.
4. Analgesics to take care of pain & fever(if any)
So...it will be better to consult an ENT specialist & start treatment.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks & take care.
