Cold, Bronchial Infection. Pain In Surgical Incisions When Coughing. Suggestions?
I have had a cold and bronchial infection. I have been coughing and sometimes it can be quite violent. (I am taking an antibiotic and prescribed cough medicine ). When I cough, I experience pain along the incision line from when I had three c-sections, partial hysterectomy , tummy tuck and finally an oopherectomy. Now there is bruising along this scar . The bruising is dark purple and sore. Should I go back to my doctor? I didn t notice the bruising when I went to his office the other day or I would have showed it to him.
Hi Lemery
Thanks for coming to HCM
It seems that yoy have a lower respiratory tract infection following viral upper respiratory tract infection, with possible secondary bacterial infection.
It is very urgent to suppress your cough to prevet incisional hernia or bursting of the surgical wound.
Go for a chest xyay PA view, sputum for acid fast bacilli, gram staining and culture and sensitivity.
IN the meantime you must try stronger cough suppressants like syrup codeine phosphate along with antihistaminics like cetrizine along with as needed inhaled salbutamol via rotahalers. antibiotics like azithromycin will be helpful. wear a belt to support your surgical wound...
yes if there is some secretion from the incision site you must meet your doctor....
best wishes
