Concerned About The Side Effects Of Amiodarone. Had A Bypass In The Past
My doctor has recently put me on amiodarone 400 mg daily after reading the possible serious side effects I am very concerned about this drug. After discussing my concerns with him he feels the benefits out way the risks. I am still concerned. So far I do not have any side effects but were the studies done over a high dosage long term study or short term. I did not respond very well with Rythmol SR 225. I had bypass x 4 10 years ago. Thank you, Clair
Hi, Amiodarone does have a number of side-effects and some of these may worry you. However, it has been used very safely for various heart conditions for many years and has a proven safety record. The studies that amiodarone would have gone through would have been comprehensive involving thousands of patients. The risks of developing side-effects is relatively low. Any doctor would weigh up risks and benefits before prescribing a drug and would be confident that the benefits are greater than the risks. I hope this helps lessen your concerns.
