Consequences Of Putting Expired Walgreens Drops In Child For Pain And Itchy Eyes?
My 5 yr old son said his eye was hurting and itchy and he needed drops. I grabbed the orginal Walgreens drops and applied 3 drops in his eye but he had it closed so it was running down his face so I applied one drop straight to his eye again. Im pretty sure some may have gotten in his mouth from wiping away the drops running down his face on to his shirt and then he wiped his tongue. His eye seemed better and he ate dinner and fell asleep soon after. Now I'm a little concerned since I just looked at the bottle and it is expired. I'm also concerned wether or not he really ingested any.....
Hello It seems from the history that used a drop of walgreens eye drops for itchy eyes and a part of the eye drop may have entered his mouth. No problem will occur by ingesting medication used for eye drop. Infact all drugs applied as eye drop will enter gastrointestinal tract via drainage by nasolacrimal duct into nose and from there into nasopharynx and throat. A single drop of expired eye drop is not known to cause any problem, hence no need to worry.
Thank you
