Consistent Runny Nose, Dry Mouth, Excessive Thirst, Hoarse Voice With Nasal Tone. Could Deviated Septum Be Causing This?

My husband has always had a problem with a runny nose - dry mouth and always thirsty. Never any pain or sickness, but nose is always running. He is also thirsty all the time and needs lip balm. Additionally, and of significant concern is that his voice is not clear and always has sounded nasaly and muffled. He has seen an ENT who said that he has a significantly deviated septum and feels this is the main cause. Could this really be the cause of his voice always sounding so nasaly and unclear? Thank you!!

hello and welcome to health care magic,

I am Dr Sriram Nathan an ENT surgeon and I will try to help you out with your husbands problem.

A severely deviated septum can cause the following:
1. Severe nose block which leads to mouth breathing and dryness of throat and lips.

2. Nose block so difficulty in breathing especially in the night and when you get a cold

3. Nasal twang of voice

4. More strain during breathing so headache

5. In future development of further block and sinus problem

These all apply to your husband and the solution is a simple surgery calle d the septoplasty. If you need any more details about this surgery or this problem you can get back to me

hope this helps
