Hello, gemmaannebramley90,
It would be helpful to know the location of the pain, constant or intermittent,
travels any where , associated with nausea, vomiting, fever or chills.
Any relationship to food intake. You mention loss of appetite and lack of
sleep probably related to stress.
Abdominal pain can come from peptic ulcer, gallstone attack, inflammation
of the pancreas (Pancreatitis), Irritable bowel syndrome or even Inflammatory
bowel disease such as Crohn's disease or Ulcerative colitis.
You mention ribs and cartilage. There is a tip of cartilage at the lower end of
the breast bone , is called the Xiphoid. It can get irritated and the inflammation
can give you that type of pain. If that is confirmed, sometimes an injection
of long acting cortisone mixed with a local anesthetic into the area can help
heal it. I hope they have ruled out all the conditions I mentioned above.
I wish you well.
