I ve had cough/ sneeze headaches for sometime, the pain has been more prevalent on my left side and sometimes comes down to my left cheek . I ve had some symptoms of cold or hay fever with dark mucus coming out of my left nostril. As far as I know I never had sinus infections but since I had a light stroke some years ago and I din t usually have headaches I consulted a neurologist. Had a magnetic resonance of the brain and it says that there apears to be a left mastoid infection. Can this be due to sinus infection?
These headaches could be associated with the flu or sinusitis you may be suffering from. Since you have been suffering from recurrent nasal discharge from single nostril, it is possible for rhinitis or sinusitis to be the cause.
Migraines can also occur on one side but are associated with sensitivity to light and sound, nausea, vomiting and aura symptoms.
Sometimes ear infections can travel and cause mastoid space infections as well.
Kindly perform steam inhalation as this will open out and clear your sinuses quickly. Also you can use nasal drops like Otrivin which contain Xylometazoline, under medical supervision. Take a Paracetamol or Acetaminophen for headaches, and Cetrizine for reducing nasal discharge under medical supervision. These will give significant relief.
It is advisable to get an ENT consult to rule out sinusitis and for antibiotic treatment if necessary. Also inform your ENT Specialist about the mastoid infection and history of stroke.
Wishing speedy recovery.
