So i went to the er saturday night for a cough and stuffy nose and such. The doc. Said i had a viral upper respirtory infection nothing bacterial. Gave me some prednisone and benadrill and sent me home. Now its monday im coughing up green phlegm and almost everytime i cough it up im seeing streaks of blood in it oh and i can barely talk. Should i go back to the doctor or what?
Welcome to HCM. Green phlegm indicates bacterial infection. According to me stop prednisone first. Start proper antibiotic like amoxy/clavulinic 625. nsaid, levocetrizine, pseudoephedrine is required to subside the coughing with expectoration.Sometime bronchodilator with ambroxol is needed. Streaks of blood might be due to abrasions in the respiratory tract due to severe coughing. If it persists then go for CXR-pa,cbc,esr to confirm the further diagnosis. Steam inhalation will be helpful. Avoid fried foods, cold drinks, ice creams and smoking if you have habit. Go back to your doctor for proper guidance and medications.
