Coughing Phlegm With Blood. Taking Benadryl For Itching And Stuffy Nose. Due To Medicine?
In the past year I have coughed bloody phlegm 4 times. The episode lasts one to one and a half days and the amount is not excessive. I take Benadryl every day for itching and/or stuffy nose. The only new activity I have started before the cough is swimming at Health Pies lap pool. I do get the water in my nose and respritory system. The pool water is kept clear with the salt method. My home pool is kept clean with chlorine, and I never had this problem swimming in my home pool. Can Benadryl or the Health Plex salt pool cause these infrequent episodes? Other Health Pies swimmers have been coughing more than usual and cough up salty phlegm.
I thought the service was free. Thank you.

Hi thanks for using HCM.
After going through your history, the bloody phlegm may be due to some erosion in throat due to dry cough or repeated irritation. You can do salt warm water gargle every day and if dry cough appears, avoid the cough using cough suppressant and other required medications in the beginning and avoid any damage to throat mucosa. This will prevent the blood in sputum.
Benadryl does not cause blood in sputum but Health Plex salt pool can spread infection or irritation to your throat. Avoid drinking that water while swimming.
the cough is allergic due to chronic irritation by salts and gas in water there is sinus infection as the sinusitis continues there is inflamation of the sinusmucosa the post nasal drip in phlem contains blood in sinus infections need to take the medicines you are taking can use neomycin h ointment in nose bd in addition for preventions
