Could Bacillus Cereus Cause Sinus Issues And Result In Infections?

My doctor called this morning with the results of my ear swab today and said I have a few different infections.. we talked about medication and he left a prescription for a couple of antibiotics.. I forgot to ask what the infections were and information about them.. I called back and spoke to the receptionist.. she said all that was listed was Anaerobic and Bacillus Cereus.. Culture ? (something that I didn t quite catch and heavy growth of both.. I would just like to know more on the infections especially the Bacillus Cereus if at all possible.. My ear has been bothering me for over a year now and I feel like I have something growing inside.. After being told I had nothing wrong and I have only to take a nasal spary and antihistamine for many months.. I had an A+E appointment and advised to get a second opinion I feel like im getting somewhere and awaiting a ENT appointment to come through.. would these infections be the cause of my severe sinus issues or could my sinus issues build up and cause the infections.. I just want to understand whats going on with me a little better.. Thankyou

hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Sinusitis can be treated with medicines like antibiotics, decongestant, antihistamines and anti inflammatory drugs.

Surgery is not a must for everyone. But if sinusitis does not reduce with conservative medicines ,and if sinusitis is recurring very frequently, may be 3 episodes in 6 months then we advise for surgery.

And if the sinusitis is associated with nasal polyp, nasal mass, fungal sinusitis then also surgery is a must. Surgery for sinusitis is a endoscopic surgery.

In this surgery mainly we clear the sinuses and provide good ventilation for the sinuses. We do have to cut the soft tissue, debride, drain and then clear the sinuses.

It's a day care procedure, patient can go home the same day. Once the surgery is done,, there are very less chances for sinusitis to recur. And yes the operated area is treated as problematic area until and otherwise you are undergoing second surgery.

In my opinion if this is your first episode of sinusitis then you can wait and watch. If you are a chronic patient of sinusitis then I suggest you choose surgery.

Hope this information will be helpful.

Thanks
