Could Bloating, Gas And Sensitive Stomach After Intake Of Coffee Be Due To Infection?
Hi Dr. Grief, I'm a 40 yr old white male, 190lbs, thought I may have come down with the flu 6 days ago, and noticed any time I've eaten, or drank coffee, I get bloated pretty bad and have a lot of gas. The flu symptoms have subsided but the sensitivity of my stomach is still there. Coffee really bothers me now as well. I'm thinking I may have some sort of infection in my stomach or upper intestine?
Hello Thanks for the query to HCM. Bloating and gas are very common after flu and this is not due to stomach flu. Hyper acidity or gastritis is the reason of such symptoms . Following measures will provide relief. Try raising the head of your bed about 4 inches with blocks. It also might help to avoid eating or drinking for 2 hours before you lie down.To help control hyper acidity one should not drink alcohol or drinks WITH CAFFEINE in them or eat chocolates or spicy or greasy foods .Also take some antacid ( with oxetacain in them will help). But if bloating or gas severe then you may need drugs like proton pump inhibitors along some enzyme syrup. Very small amount of food frequently also help. Good luck. Dr. HET
