Could Bruise In Shin Caused While Playing Softball Have In Turn Caused Bruising In Ankle?

My 10-year old daughter got hit in the shin with a softball during practice two days ago. A good size bruised appeared right away so we iced it right away and aside from some mild discomfort, it didn't bother her. She woke up the following day and described pain in the ankle of the same leg with the bruise. There appears to be some bruising close to the ankle. Is it possible some the blood from the shin bruise pooled around her ankle and is causing that pain?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The bruise at the site of the injury is due to local bleeding. After a few days it is normal for the blood to shift to the dependent parts of the body causing the bruise to appear in ankle.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
