Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Dry Rattling Cough With Stringy Mucus Be A Matter Of Concern?
I came down ill over the weekend with headache, nausea, severe fatigue and low grade fever- 100-101. I now have a very intense very dry rattling cough. Sometimes something will come loose in my lungs and I cough up long very stringy mucus. I have had bronchitis, and colds before but never anything like this... It s somewhat difficult to take a deep breath but I have attributed that to fatigue from all the coughing. Is this likely a common cold, flu, or something that I should get checked? I am feeling better but still tired and the cough is just so intense.
If you mucus is yellowish, greenish yellow, or greenish, you will need antibiotics which your physician will prescribe, you may also need broncho-dilators, mucolytic agents. Pleuritic pain also has be ruled out by examination, so visit your physician rightaway.
