Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Elevated Enzymes And High WBC Causing Flu Be Treated With IV Fluids?
My son had the flu Monday was treated with meds and iv-fluids. Dr indicated had slight elevated enzymes and high white blood count. But today feeling well and wants to go to basketball practice and play in basketball tomorrow. Will this be ok for him?
Could you please specify which enzymes were elevated.or still better, could you upload the results. High WBC count definitely means infection. Generally iv fluids is not the first choice of rehydration etc. Only if he is unable to retain oral fluids or he has vomiting/diarrhoea, then iv fluids are given.
Probably your son must have had a severe form. It is difficult for me to comment as I do not know the symptoms in detail and also which enzymes in particular were elevated.
However, since 1 week has passed since the flu and he is feeling well... it should be okay for him to go play basketball. Please make sure he is well hydrated.
Do get back to me if you have further queries.
Regards, Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
