Could Intake Of Two Doses Of Miralax Powder Cause Loose Stools?

I gave a pt Miralax powder 1 packet because she has no BM s for 2 days and she had one BM 8 hours later so I gave her a second dose next day to keep her regular and the doctor and a care coordinator thinks the second dose could have caused 6-8 loose BM s 25-26 hours later do you think it was the Miralax or another cause she gets Jevity 1.2 in the peg tube and sometimes I found syringes with encrusted milk and peg tube not flushed properly with enough water

Hi,

Your dosing is correct. Miralax can be given for two or three days. The loose stools will reduce in the next few days. Further dosing of Miralax should be avoided.Fluid restriction should not be done due to loose stools since it can lead to dehydration. Jevity 1.2 is a high protein diet which may not cause such sudden bowel movements.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
