Could It Be A Flare Up Of Colitis If Having Bleeding When I Go To The Bathroom?

I have been bleeding a lot when I go to the Bathroom. I did have colitis last year and was on prednisone for a while. I don't know if im experiencing a flare up again, but I don't want to get put on heavy medications again. Is this food or stress related? What can I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
You have history of colitis.
Now bleeding could be mostly due to flare up of colitis.
Stress, infection of intestine after food are the precipitating factor.
Colitis require proper long term treatment under the advise of the gastroenterologist.
I would suggest to consult the gastroenterologist and undergo examination, fecal calprotectin, routine blood test and colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy
Following treatment will useful:
Steroid in form of spray or orally for 6-8 week will tapering does
Mesacol suppository or spray: for long term management
If not responds to local treatment then tablet form will useful
Tablet revital. scahet of sporolac
Eat healthy diet, drink plenty of lukewarm water, butter milk, eat more yogurt
Hope this may help you

Contact further if follow up needed
Best regards
