Could Liquid Dilantin Be Used Due To Difficulty In Swallowing The Tablets?

I have a question about liquid Dilantin. My uncle takes 400mg a day in capsules and is starting to have a difficult time swallowing so we switched to the chewables and crush them and put in small dose of water. How would we go about getting the liquid Dilantin? the nurse said if he gets to not taking the chewables he will have to take 4 Xanax all at diff times during the day instead of 3 a day. Is uping the Xanax dose which is 1mg and 3 times a day now 4 times a day if we uped it help with seizures? Im really confused about the whole thing

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

Dilantin- either in tablet/capsule or liquid form- is the SAME.

You can safely give it liquid form, PROVIDED that the dose remains 400mg/day. The amount of Dilantin in 5ml is mentioned on the bottle. You can easily calculate the number of ml which contain 400mg Dilantin.
